The town of James Island was officially formed in 1993, although the nieghborhoods were obviously developed long before. The James Island Connector opened in 1993 making it easier and faster to reach the area from historic downtown Charleston. James Island is home to the Charleston Municipal Golf Course, the James Island County Park, the Country Club of Charleston, and the McLeod Plantation Historic Site. Becasue the island is surrounded by the harbor, rivers, marshes, and creeks, it's also a fantastic spot for fishing, boating, and other watersports. James Island is a great place to grab a meal or a cocktail, with many favorite restaurants, bars, and music venues. Many of Charleston's most popular spots are on the island, like The Terrace Theater, adventure course Wild Blue Ropes, and The Pour House. Famously kid and dog-friendly, James Island is laid-back living at its best, and The Pointe at Stono Shores is a perfect place to build your lowcountry dream home.
